Janis’ family read many books together as children because a family friend was a collector of first editions. One summer Janis had a job at the local public library and decorated the children’s area with pictures from drawings related to the reading experiences.

This hung in the family dining room until Janis impulsively took it down and walked out the door, en route to give it to close high school friend Jim Langdon for his birthday.

A painting created at the request of her 11 year old sister. Janis created an image of the bored younger sister who didn’t realize she had to sit for long stretches of time being perfectly still.

This self portrait was part of a letter written to a boyfriend of Janis’ during college. She was discussing the new hairstyle and drew the picture to show hom how it looked.
